Sample preparation. Samples should be provided in solution or lyophilized. Organic solvents (acetonitrile, methanol) or aqueous solutions are preferred and only volatile buffers are admissible. Samples should be delivered in clearly labeled glass vials or hi-grade plastic tubes (Eppendorff or Sarstedt brands preferred). Samples must be pre-filtered (0.22 ?) or centrifuged. If needed, Zip-tip clean-up should be requested in the notes and additional information box.
Preliminary analysis. Ideally, samples should be previously scanned on another mass spectrometer and mass spectra or m/z values provided.
Service acknowledgment in scientific publications. Any project, which uses data measured by the FTICR-MS service, MUST include an acknowledgement in any subsequent publications. The acknowledgement should take the form:
We acknowledge Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) for the project REDE/1501/REM/2005 and Name of service provider (operator) for providing data from the FTICR-MS at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.
Co-authorship. Data measured and interpreted by the services: any project which uses data measured by the FTICR-MS service, but where the personnel of the service interpret the data and make a significant contribution to the scientific content of the paper MUST
include the acknowledgement above and in addition, the personnel of the service
MUST BE INVITED TO BE CO-AUTHORS. Should the personnel choose not to be co-authors, then the acknowledgement alone will suffice.
Equipment operation. The equipment will be operated ONLY by members of the FCUL node.
